Meadowlands wraps up main harness meet

With a quartet of top stakes races and a Pick 6 carryover in excess of $100,000, Meadowlands Racetrack posted its highest live and total handle figures for a Friday night of harness racing in 2010.

Live handle (amount wagered at the Meadowlands on the evening's live harness racing) was $592,092, while total handle from all sources reached $3,365,885. The live handle was the highest for a Friday card in three years (the best since $598,772 on May 4, 2007), while the all sources was the highest since the $3,213,711 recorded on Friday, February 12.

The Pick 6 carryover attracted a pool of $378,994. There were two winning tickets, each returning $142,769.

In stakes action, driver David Miller captured both two-year-old events on the card, winning the $402,400 Sweetheart with Honky Tonk Woman and the $473,000 Woodrow Wilson with Fashion Delight. Tug River Princess won the $257,000 Golden Girls and Shark Gesture took the $702,500 William Haughton Memorial.

Live harness racing returns to the Meadowlands on Saturday October 23, for the start of a 17-day Fall Harness Meet. Live racing will be held every Friday and Saturday night through December 18.
