Mellby Viking (6m Viking Kronos-Neomi de Lou-Extreme Dream) won today's Gr. II International UET Masters Series Harper Hanovers at Solvalla.

This co-feature event was raced over the stayer distance of 3140 meters (just short of two miles) turning start, distance handicapped, for a purse to the winner of 500,000SEK ($68,000 US). Jorma Kontio drove the winner for trainer Timo Nurmos in a Swedish record time of 1.12.5kr for the distance.

Mellby Viking won for the third straight time in 2014, in his only starts, and for the 15th time in a career of 24 outings for earnings now of 1,627,000SEK. Mellby Gard AB of Malmo owns Mellby Viking. Time Machine (5m Super Arnie-Union Highness-Pythagoras) was second for trainer/driver Jorgen Westholm.

The race has a storied history from its 1968 beginning. Past winners include Yarrah Boko. Etain Royal, Queen L, Tibur, Wiretapper (Soren Nordin aboard) and Kentucky Fibber. The race record prior to today was 1.13.4kr in 2007 by the Thierry Duvaldestin steered Milord de Melleray. Today's replay can be seen using link below

Delphine Flevo (4f Sugar Trader-Volga River-Yankee Mustang), 1.12.6kr over 2140 meters autostart for Rick Ebbinge on dq of race winner Rumba Jet (4f Naglo-Ticket to Ride-Nevele Pride) and Pietro Gubellini. The winner has hit the board in all nine career starts with four victories.
