With just $29,854 in earnings this year, Delightful Dragon was no barn burning favorite Saturday at the Meadowlands in the $394,950 final of the Three Diamonds Pace for two-year-olds, but the 9-1 long shot did not disappoint with a lifetime best performance.

The race began with Delightful Dragon and driver David Miller going to the early lead with Act Now (Brian Sears) moving into the two-hole spot to the opening quarter in :27.3. Then Yannick Gingras came first-over with the race favorite, Ali Blue, and they took command entering the backstretch.

After going to the half mile in :56, Ali Blue was comfortable on the lead as Somethinincredible and driver John Campbell came first-over with JK Molly (Matt Kakaley) following second-over to the three-quarters in 1:24.4.

As they started down the stretch Ali Blue looked comfortable on the lead but nearing the finish she began to tire and beared out, allowing Miller and Delightful Dragon to sneak in along the rail to win by a half length in 1:52.4. Act Now was second as Ali Blue faded to third place.

It was the only the third win in eight lifetime starts for Delightful Dragon. The daughter of Bettor's Delight gave driver David Miller his fourth winner on the evening card. She is trained by Noel Daley and is owned and bred by the Adam Victor and Son Stable of New York. Sent off as odds of 9-1, Delightful Dragon paid $21.00 to win and also scored a lifetime best time with her 1:52.4 clocking.
