SHAKOPEE, Minn. (November 18, 2020) – The Minnesota Racing Commission has received 2021 live race day requests from Canterbury Park and Running Aces Casino, Hotel, and Racetrack.
Canterbury Park is requesting 65 days of a live mixed meet of Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing beginning May 18, 2021 and concluding September 16, 2021. Each day's program will include between eight and fourteen races with normal race days of Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with an estimated $14 million in purses being offered throughout the meet, returning the track to pre COVID-19 purse levels.
Running Aces Casino, Hotel and Racetrack is requesting 55 days of live Standardbred harness racing from May 16, 2021 to September 18, 2021. Each day's program will include between eight and twelve races. Post times will be at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays through September 14. There will be no racing on Sunday, July 4, but a special program will be conducted on Monday, July 5. The Minnesota Night of Champions special programs will be conducted on Friday, September 17 and Saturday, September 18.
The Minnesota Racing Commission will hold a public hearing for these requests on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 3:45 p.m. via virtual teleconference meeting. Information about this meeting and all meetings are available on the commission's meetings webpage.
The Minnesota Racing Commission will consider these requests at its December Full Commission Meeting, also via teleconference meeting, which will begin immediately following the Public Hearing at 4 p.m. All persons wishing to comment may do so in writing, and comments must be received by Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at: Minnesota Racing Commission 1100 Canterbury Rd.
