'Sweetheart' seeks 3rd straight $20K Mares Open

DOVER, Del. ---- Jeremes Sweetheart is the one to beat in the $20,000 Mares Open Handicap pace on Monday, Feb. 24 at Dover Downs. Post time is 4:30 p.m.

With Hall of Fame driver Ron Pierce, Jeremes Sweetheart has been impressive in each of her last two Open victories. With her quick early speed, she scored a wire-to-wire win last time after coming along the passing lane the race before. Ken Wood, Bill Dittmar and Steve Iaquinta own the five-year-old fast female.

Another 'Sweetheart' was a winner last time out, Jason and Susan Skinner's BJ's Sweetheart, won her most recent start and now steps up a notch in class. Kimberley and trainer Johnny Waite's family homebred, Alexachase, appears to be back in top form. Brett Brittingham will drive her from the rail. Rich Lombardo, Dave Kryway and Seafood Delight Stable's Cooking The Books with Allan Davis leaves from alongside. Ross Wolfenden will steer greatly improved Paradise Lost for owner-trainer Bob Winkleman. Melissa's Fancy, owned by the stable of the same name, handled by George Dennis completes the field.

McArma, owned, trained and driven by Ross Wolfenden, a winner of her last three straight, goes for win #7 in the $14,500 4&5-Year-Old Mares Winners-Over pace. JK Letitgo (Corey Callahan) also is streaking, The Parker, Spedden, Evans and Nanticoke Racing distaff has won her last three in a row. Bay Pond Racing's Winbak Speedi (Davis) was a winner last start, too.

Don Reed and trainer George Wagner (Dennis) leads strong opposition. Dylan Davis' Caviart Cara (Jonathan Roberts) has won two of her last three. Tom Kemp's fast finishing Make Magic (Trace Tetrick) and Crawford Partner's Air Miles Hanover (Kirby) have upset credentials.

Monday through Thursday racing begins at 4:30 p.m. No racing on Friday and Saturday. Sunday post time is 5:30 p.m.

Simulcasting of harness and thoroughbred racing is available daily from 12 Noon until 12 Midnight. There is no charge for parking and admission. Reservations are suggested for the Winner's Circle Restaurant and for those planning to stay at Dover Downs Hotel. Call 302-674-4600.
