Mount Gambier Harness Racing Club, have reverted back to standing start for this seasons Mount Gambier Cup, after the club surveyed trainers and  participants about their preferences the club also has announced they will run preludes to the Cup with eight from those preludes going straight into final.

President Phil Wood explained “ we will run hopefully three preludes certainly two at least, with 8  runners from the preludes going through to final that allows us as a committee to upgrade any that we see fit  if a horse gets bad interference we can  upgrade it “  Wood added “it also allows us to open four other spots and when we surveyed participants the majority wanted a standing start cup we also looked at timing as too when trainers bought their horses down here etc”  the club has bucked the trend of short distant races with the Cup set down to be run over 2590 meters. Mount Gambier has 11 meetings set down for the season with the first of those on December 8th.

In other country news this week Whyalla Cup meeting has been moved forward a month, last season it was on the Australia Day holiday and this season will be run over the Christmas New Year period set down as a twilight meeting for December 29.
