Nominations closed today with the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club for the running of the 2014 Muscara Standardbreds New Zealand Derby at Addington on Friday 11 April.
At the time of closing at 3.00pm this afternoon, 27 three year old pacers had been nominated for the prestigious event that this year carries a total stake of $175,000 an increase of $25,000 from 2013.
Notable nominations included Woodlands Stud Northern Derby victor Tiger Tara and the next three home in that race Locharburn, Maxim and Sky Major. 10 nominations came from leading Canterbury trainers Mark Purdon, Natalie Rasmussen and Robert Dunn with six from the Purdon / Rasmussen partnership and four from the Dunn stable.
Addington’s Racing Manager Brian Rabbitt was happy the number of nominations. “It is very pleasing to receive such a high level of nominations for this time honoured event. Our three year old crop this year is of high quality and we’ll be looking forward to hopefully carding a full field on 11 April.”
Any horse not nominated, may upon making the late entry fee of $2,000 plus GST per horse become eligible. This fee is due no later than 1pm NZ time on Monday 7 April.
