My MVP was not only able to handle a hike in class today at Harrah’s Philadelphia but he also defeated two of harness racing’s premier older trotters in defeating both Sevruga and race favorite Market Share.
It took a perfect drive from Yannick Gingras and only a :28.3 final quarter to get the job done.
The 10th race $30,000 featured trot started off with My MVP going right to the lead from post four and led to the opening quarter in :27 as Sevruga and driver Andy Miller was already on the move and took command of the race. Gingras was content to sit the pocket-trip with My MVP as Market Share and Tim Tetrick got away in fourth place.
Nobody made a move as the field raced past the half mile pole in :54.4. In the backstretch Sir Winston (Ron Pierce) began to quit in third place and Market Share was able to get around him as the field passed the three-quarters in 1:23.2.
Then in the stretch, My MVP and Gingras were able to out kick Sevruga home to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.2. Market Share was unable to gain any ground in finishing third.
It was the second straight win for My MVP, a four-year-old stallion by Cantab Hall and the first time this year he has been driven by Gingras for trainer Tony Alagna. My MVP is co-owned by Brittany Farms, KY, Joe Sbrocco, OH and Modern Family Partners, KY. Sent off at odds of 4.80 to 1, My MVP paid $11.60 to win.
