Balmoral Park and Maywood Park have announced a number of new August series for raceway horses, the staple of Chicago Standardbred Circuit, to be conducted while many of the local first and second season horses will be headed for the upcoming Illinois State Fairs.
The State Fair at Springfield gets under way on August 13, while The DuQuoin State Fair, home of the World Trotting Derby, commences on August 31.
Three of Balmoral Park’s new series—The Summer Bonus, The August Star, and The—begin on Tuesday night, August 9.
Each will have additional legs raced on the following two Tuesday nights with the Finals, and a consolation, slated for Tuesday, August 30.
Entries for the first leg of Tuesday series will be taken the morning of Friday, August 5 with a 10.00 am (Chicago time) deadline.
A Saturday Series, for horses $12,500, $20,000 and $30,000, will have two legs and a Final to be carded later this month at the south suburban facility.
Maywood Park will begin their Thursday summer pacing series with on August 11.
Entries will be accepted Monday morning, August 8 with a 10.00 am (Chicago time) deadline.
Its Fifth Avenue Series is for horses without five wins or $30,000 lifetime as of July 15, 2005 that have been in for a base claiming price of $12,500 or lower. The North Avenue Series is for horses that have competed for a base-claiming price of $8000 or less since July 25.
Balmoral’s Summer Bonus is for pacing horses and geldings that have started in a $4000 claimer or lower since June 1, while the August Star is for pacing fillies or mares of the same claming level and timeframe.
Theis for trotters without a win or $5000 in career earnings (Fillies and Mares allowed 1 win lifetime) as of July 31, 2005.
The $10,000 (estimated) Final will be raced on August 30.
There is no entry fee for any of these summer series.
