DOVER, Del.— Impressive New Zealand harness racing import Nike Franco N chalked up her third victory since traveling the Pacific and Tim Tetrick guided her to a 1:51.4 victory in the $20,000 Filly and Mare Open Handicap on Tuesday, Nov 15 at Dover Downs.
Spanish Dream, Cashmere's Delight, Magicinthemoonlite and Spinpressive won $20,000 DSBF frosh filly 2nd- leg prelims and Vince Copeland topped off the program winning his 5,000th career winning drive.
Tetrick posted his second win on the card directing Nike Franco N home after starting from outside post 8, she took the lead on the final turn and won easily. The North American-sired daughter of McAardle-Nearea Franco by Badlands Hanover six-year-old is trained by Jim King for Richard Polucci. Including her earnings Down Under, she has banked $120,429 this year and $250,243 lifetime. Shine N Shimmer (Montrell Teague) came on to finish second while Scandalicious (Jim Morand) was third.
Corey Callahan drove Spinpressive to his second win and her third in a short career scoring a 1:55.2 surprise in the final $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund two-year-old filly pace preliminary. Owned and trained by Lee Louthan, who also owns the sire No Spin Zone bred to her mare Paradusho N, Spinpressive won the photo beating Westwind Roddylee (Tetrick) and Logan's Girl (Vic Kirby) who spend much of the mile racing on the outside and yet closed for third. Logan's Girl entered the event with five consecutive wins in a six-win campaign.
Earlier, Magicinthemoonlight and Yannick Gingras began the wagering program racking up a 1:55.4 victory in the first DSBF filly prelim. Kevin Freeman and breeder Linda Condon own the Mr Apples-Damian Hoss youngster. She's No Spinster (Allan Davis) was runner-up with Rainbow Zen (Callahan) third.
In non-wagering $20,000 prelims, Spanish Dream won for the second straight time scoring a 1:55.1 success, the first of three winners for meet leading driver Vic Kirby and second of the day meet leading trainer Jim King and owner JoAnn Looney-King. It was her fourth win of the season with three seconds in eight starts. In the other early race Donna Messick and Nanticoke Racing's homebred Cashmere's Delight score her fifth win of the year in 1:57.4. Jim Morand drove for trainer Les Givens.
A 61-1 shot, trainer-driver Donnie Long's Onery Shark, closed with a rush to win an $8,500 female pace in 1:52.4 for the biggest payoff on the program, paying $125.20 to win.
Glenferrie Dreamer looks for his third consecutive win.
Glenferrie Dreamer outs a two-race win streak on the line in this week’s $20,000 Open/Handicap trot on a Wednesday, Nov. 16. The last two Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) $20,000 prelims are also on the trot day card.
Pat Berry drove Glenferrie Dreamer to victory in 1:54/3 last week for trainer Traci Berry and JCraparotta & PBerry Stables, his fifth victory of 2016 and third in his last four starts. Celebrity Pegasus racing for Ken Wood. Bill Dittmar, Steve Iaquinta and Minisink Farms, second last start after a big trip with Art Stafford Jr. and Tirade Hanover handled by Vic Kirby has been third in his previous two races.
Jonathan Roberts will guide Mike Casalino and trainer Dylan Davis Theresademoninme from post 3 this time. Howard and Josh Kauffman’s Drinksforthehouse with Corey Callahan is also on a two-race win streak. CC Racing’s Il Mago and Tim Tetrick makes a better post position move starting from the rail. Not to be overlooked is Bob Key’s Skates N Plates with Yannick Gingras who made an early race miscue last start and Joe and Laurie Davino’s Take My Picture a inner of three of his last four but the $1-million winner leaves from outside post 8.
The last DSBF 2nd leg preliminaries for two-year-old filly trotters before next week’s $100,000 finals, has two $20,000 divisions. Owner-driver Gordon Barrett’s Willow Mill Anna, a winner last week, seeks her third win of the campaign meeting Emerson, Zack and Dawn Amiss’ Faith On The Hill (Callahan), Mark Groce’s Alexibethtown (Montrell Teague) from post 1 and Serendipity Stable’s Segway (Frank Milby) in one of two divisions.
