With no pacers in sight at Flemington for Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup, New South Wales harness racing fan will have a horse to cheer for in The Race That Slows Down The Nation at Weddernburn today. The event, over 800 metres, will see 50 mascots from across the country competing for the glory of being crowned Australia’s fastest with Tabcorp Park Menangle’s ‘Trigger’ representing NSW. The race will be broadcast across Australia on the Hamish and Andy radio show at 5pm with Sydney listeners tuning into 2DAY FM to hear the ‘great race’
The clash between ‘Trigger’ and Harness Racing Victoria’s ‘Poppy’ is a race within itself however with 48 others mascots on the track, the pair will struggle to eyeball one another during the epic.
Good luck to ‘Trigger’s’ strapper and conditioner Tabcorp Park Menangle’s Amanda Zammit. Amanda has spent hours training for the event, running around the Menangle track and we wish her all the best of luck. ‘Trigger’ spent his Sunday at Menangle’s Fishers Ghost meeting and was popular with all of the children.
Thousands are tipped to flock to Weddernburn today for the event with a street parade being conducted at lunchtime before the big race.
Don’t forget to tune in at 5pm on Monday to hear Trigger compete in The Race That Slows Down The Nation on Hamish and Andy.
