TORONTO, May 3 - National Debt, who has captured all seven of his career starts, tasted defeat Saturday evening at Woodbine in the lone $20,000 division of The Diplomat Series.

The defeat came courtesy of 30-1 shot Somewhere In L A and Hall of Fame driver Steve Condren.

The Pepsi North America Cup eligible National Debt (Sylvain Filion) attempted to lead gate-to-wire as the son of Allamerican Native carved out fractions of :28, :56.3 and 1:25, but he was collared in the final stages of the mile. Somewhere In L A was sitting third-over turning for home, before Condren showed his pupil open road and Somewhere In L A brushed past the tempo-setter in deep stretch to score the win in 1:54.3. National Debt finished second as the 1/9 favourite, over Prince Clyde (Keith Oliver).

"My guess is that National Debt was off his game," Condren quickly said following the win. "That's a pretty strong head wind out there tonight and he was on the lead. I didn't angle off cover with my horse until late because of that and he responded. It's just his second start back this season and he's certainly going in the right direction."

Trained and co-owned by Hall of Famer Bob McIntosh along with C S X Stables and Al McIntosh Holdings Inc, Somewhere In L A enjoyed his first win of the season from two starts as his bankroll now sits at $85,892.

The son of Somebeachsomewhere paid $64.10.
