Addington Raceway and Events Centre and The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club (NZMTC) are pleased to announce the Canterbury Standardbred Breeders' Association (CSBA) as the new naming rights partner for harness racing's prestigious 2012 New Zealand Oaks on Friday 18 May.

The Group 1 event for 3 year old fillies carries a stake of $100,000.

Addington's Marketing and Commercial Manager Ged Mooar was thrilled to confirm the CSBA on board as key business partners.

"The CSBA plays a vital part in our industry as an important organization in the ownership and breeding areas of the standardbred. The fit could not be more perfect given the NZ Oaks is contested by our very best 3 year old fillies who will one day become broodmares. Black type events for our fillies are hugely significant and the CSBA recognize this through their commitment to such a prestigious and time honoured race for our fairer sex."

CSBA has had an excellent association with Addington in recent years. The current keystone Canterbury Breeders' Event is the annual Breeders Night held in late September.

With the support of the studs and stallion owners, 180 members of the association and their friends celebrate the new breeding season.

Over the summer CSBA commenced the Christian Cullen Canterbury Breeders Mares Speed Series for the 4 year old and older mares. The fourth heat for $12,500 was held at Addington in January and was won by San Rafaella.

The $10,000 Canterbury Standardbred Breeders Stakes was won recently by Southwind Arden just a few weeks ago.

John Mooney, chairman of CSBA, said:

"Our Association is extremely keen to promote increased opportunities for fillies and mares to race. While it is not our core business to be into race sponsorship we have been able to organise wonderful people to come in behind us for these events. I am extremely pleased with the response to our request for support for the New Zealand Oaks. This is the peak event for the fillies. Over 20 supporters have provided the funding for this sponsorship, some of them new friends of CSBA and racing."

The CSBA sponsored race coincides with the New Zealand Standardbred Breeders first national conference. The 100 conference participants will join CSBA's 200 sponsor's guests to enjoy a great night's racing, entertainment and a superb dinner."

John said he was pleased that part of the naming rights package includes signage in the back straight.

"The message to the industry and breeders is clear: Dreams. Commitment. Rewards. Produce Quality. We all live the dream, we know it takes patience and commitment, and there are rewards. There are also disappointments! However, all aspects of our sport and business need to be of high quality if we are to maintain harness racing as part of the wagering fabric in NZ, if we are able to produce the horses that owners and trainers in NZ and Australia want, and if we individually are to have a realistic chance of winning the iconic races such as the NZ Oaks."
