A new harness racing promotion is about to launch in New Zealand. Back To The Track, an offshoot of similar promotions in North America comes to our shores for the first time on the weekend of March 16-18.
The Back To The Track promotion will be conducted across five race meetings from around New Zealand and offer racegoers the best of what’s new in harness racing events with an eye on the past and some enjoyable nostalgic aspects.
The dates and venues for Back to The Track are as follows:
- Alexandra Park – Friday 16 March
- Addington Raceway – Friday 16 March
- Central Southland Raceway (Winton) – Saturday 17 March
- Manawatu Raceway – Sunday 18 March
- Motukarara Racecourse – Sunday 18 March
RNZ CEO Edward Rennell speaks of the rationale behind the new promotion. “This new promotion has come about from what we’ve witnessed overseas and the need to be innovative and drive greater promotion of harness racing in New Zealand. This initial ‘Back To The Track’ promotion is a trial and will be developed further in the future.”
Those that attend Back To The Track events will experience new and old attractions. From a nationwide competition that offers a grand prize of a Harness Jewels Escape Weekend for four people, to on-course promotions, giveaways and race-by-race amusement.
Other features of the promotion include a focus on meeting the horsemen, seeing and celebrating past champions, enjoying food and beverage specials, on-course competitions, a new innovation for those that like a bet and much more.
The premise of the Back To The Track promotion is to attract racing people back on-course, giving them reasons to bring their friends and attend the races more regularly.
