Once a regular occurrence at Newcastle, the trotters races at the track have slowed up considerably in the past few years but with somewhat of a resurgence by locals who have trotters in work the club has programmed a standing start discretionary handicap for the trotters on Newcastle Mile night 9 November.
"We hope this kick starts trotters races at Newcastle again and all the locals nominate and a number travel up from Sydney for the race," said Newcastle CEO Ross Gigg.
"One of the best races I've ever seen at Newcastle was the night David Moss started off 60 metres in the Trotters Cup then galloped shortly after the tapes flew, lost another 50 metres, and only beaten 5 metres by Arnie Hest who was off a 10 metres.
The club is securing some extra incentives for the Trotters race from companies such as Mitavite, Ranvet, Innordic and Garrards Horse and Hound.
The nominations for Newcastle Mile meeting close on Monday 4th November with HRNSW.
