"Australian Harness Racing Drivers Championship winner Todd McCarthy – the son of legendary Treuer Memorial five time consecutive winning trainer John McCarthy – can now add the title of Bankstown Paceway Driver of the Year to his growing list of accolades," according to Bankstown Paceway acting president Megan Lavender.
"The twenty six year old – who earlier this year became the youngest reinsman to represent Australia at the World Drivers Championship in Sweden – was lauded last Friday, November 22nd, on Canterbury Bankstown City Council Cup Gala Race Night, along with Bankstown Paceway Trainer of the Year, Kerry McDowell, Bankstown Paceway Horse of the Year, Left Tennant, and Bankstown Paceway Owners of the Year, Allied Express Pacing and Trotting Pty Ltd," Ms Lavender told Harnesslink.
"Last Friday night's race meeting also saw a wealth of wins for New Zealand bred bays – with four year old pacer Make Way NZ, trained by Sonya Smith and driven by Anthony Butt, claiming the Canterbury Bankstown City Council Cup while seven year old bay gelding Matai Valour NZ took out the 2019 Mayor's Cup," Ms Lavender said.
"Three year old bay colt Sonny Weaver NZ, seven year old bay mare Rnr Windermere NZ and four year old bay gelding Heart of Cooper were all victorious in their respective Schweppes Sydney Cup heats races, while five year old bay brown horse Heza Conman, nine year old bay gelding Rocknroll Music and four year old bay mare My Anna Rani claimed the remaining three wins on the fixture card," she said.
"Bankstown Paceway's Summer Carnival Series of Friday Night Harness Racing continues next Friday, December 6th, with Schweppes Sydney Cup Gala Race Night, followed by Christmas Race Night on Friday, December 20th, and Holiday Race Night on Friday, December 27th, 2019 – and we look forward to welcoming the harness racing community and all of their families and friends back on track," Ms Lavender added.
