Talented filly Essaouira will remain in Queensland to compete in the Nursery series after finishing fifth in Saturday night's Australia Pacing Gold Final for the two year old fillies.

Trainer Blake Fitzpatrick confirmed the decision before adding he was extremely pleased with her fast finishing effort at Albion Park in the Gr.1.

“It made sense to leave her in Queensland for another couple of weeks, she will run in the heats on Friday afternoon at the Gold Coast and Mat Rue is going to drive her for me this week, he drove her when she ran in the semi finals of the Australian Pacing Gold as well,” Fitzpatrick said.

“I was happy with the way she hit the line on Saturday night, the speed was on and for her to come from last was impressive, she is a very strong filly and her best attribute is that she can maintain a lengthy sprint at the backend of her races.”

Essaouira was purchased at the Australian Pacing Gold Sales by two men from Western Australia and Fitzpatrick is very pleased to be training for the duo.

“I met Peter Gianni when I began selling some horses to Western Australia and through that association he and Liam O’Connor have purchased several horses for my stable, they bought three at the sales last year including Essaouira and they bought another three at the sales this year.”

“Essaouira is beautifully bred, she is by Art Major out of Left For Me which makes her a full sister to For A Reason and Lettucereason and they both won a number of races.”

Fitzpatrick will have runners at Tabcorp Park Menangle this Saturday night and is hoping talented mare Im Ready Set can compete well in a heat of the Glenferrie Farm Trotters Championship.

“She probably should have won at Coolamon but her manners cost her at the start, Gavin (Fitzpatrick) will drive her this week and if she is well behaved I think she is going to be very hard to beat.”
