On Sunday, August 18 Raceway Park will host eight divisions of Ohio Sires Stake racing action on their 12-race program. These races will be the third leg of the Sires Stakes for the freshmen and account for the majority on the nearly $250,000 in purses for the evening.
Ohio Sires Stake filly trotters will start Sunday’s show in Race one for the $30,000 first division. Rose Run Princess (Trainforthefuture-Cinder Char-Striking Sahbra) is the 2-1 morning-line favorite for owners James Keller of New Carlisle, Ohio and Jerry Bell of Tipp City, Ohio. Devan Miller is the filly’s trainer and has listed Ronnie Wrenn Jr. to drive. Rose Run Princess has won three of five lifetime starts. She has a bankroll of $52,798 and a lifetime mark of 2:00.2 at Scioto Downs on August 1. Rose Run Princess will start from post two in a field of seven. Also competing in the first division will be Anniesbluejeanbaby, OIM Bad, Iron Princess, Turbochargedroxie, Mclean and Emilene’s Future.
Race two will be the $30,000 first division OSS for freshman colt trotters. Rompaway Galaxy (Rompaway Wally-Rompaway Wynona-Mr Vic) is the heavy 8-5 morning-line favorite for owner Rompaway Farms LLC of Battle creek, Michigan. His trainer, Krista Williams will hand the lines to Mike Micallef, who has driven the trotter in all of his career starts. Rompaway Galaxy has four wins and a second in five lifetime starts. His 1:58.4 mark was trotted on July 13 at Scioto Downs. His earnings are $56,550. Micallef will start the trotter from post one in a field that consists of Can’tcutthatchip, Hooray For Willie, Mainstreet Willy, Inquiring Andy and Fiftyshades Of Nay.
The evening’s fourth race is the $30,000 OSS first division for two year-old-filly pacers. Paydaze On The Way (Look Sharp-Shantytown Girl-Towner’s Big Guy) has been made the 6-5 heavy morning-line favorite. She is owned by the partnership of Pennsylvania owners H. Taylor and E. Gold as well as Buckeye owners R. Lombardo and K. Rose. Trainer Diana Riegal has called upon Dan Noble to drive. This filly has four lifetime starts, winning three times and finishing second once. She has bankrolled $47,500, with a 1:56 mark taken at Northfield Park on July 19. Paydaze On the Way’s rivals consist of APP Panda, Shakin Friskie, Crown Time Keeper, Lady Julie, Ataway Samantha and Fayco Filly.
Race five is the $30,000 OSS first division for colt pacers. Dibs (Pine Valley-CG’s Gem-Shady Character) is the 8-5 morning-line favorite for owners Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, J. Melillo and R. Suada. North America’s leading trainer, Ron Burke, is the gelding’s trainer and has named Tony Hall to drive. Dibs has won three of five lifetime starts. He has a bankroll of $39,620 and a lifetime mark of 1:54.4 at Scioto Downs on August 10. Dibs will start from post four in a short field of six. Also competing will be Led Schneppelin, Big Bossman, Upfront Clays Boy, Hawks Cry Hoboken and Chance I Might.
Race six will be the $30,000 second division OSS for freshman filly trotters. Undefeated In The Grippers (Steven One-Over Baked-Overcomer) is the overwhelming 4-5 morning-line favorite. She is owned by Herres Stables LLC of Bellbrook, Ohio and is trained by Virgil Morgan Jr. Chris Page has driven the trotter in all of her career starts and is listed to pilot her again. In The Grippers has four starts and has as many wins, earning $58,725. Her 1:58.4 mark was trotted on August 1 at Scioto Downs. Page will start the trotter from post three and will face Hush Hush Chip, MJs Victory Jody, Emery Jean, Greased, Sandys Victory, Maes Perfect Storm and Cookie N Ice Cream.
The evening’s seventh race is the $30,000 OSS second division for two year-old-colt trotters. Soul Train (Trainforthefuture-Dances On Air-Muscles Yankee) is the 5-2 slight morning-line favorite. He is owned by the partnership of Parent Racing Stable, R.S. Crynick and J.E. Novak. Trainer Scott Cox has named Chris Page to drive. This gelding has seven lifetime starts, winning three times and finishing second twice. He has bankrolled $29,008 and has a 1:59.3 mark at Scioto Downs on August 9. Soul Train will face five rivals consisting of Zippy Sam, Happy Dance, Happy Go Jamie, Bradymeister, and Noah Count.
Race nine is the $30,000 second division for freshman filly pacers. Lucky L (Memphis Flash-Beach Sandals-Jenna’s Beach Boy) is the 5-2 slight morning-line favorite for Woodstock, Ohio owner Melissa Levan. Herb Levan is the filly’s trainer and has named Jack Dailey to drive. Lucky L has 14 starts, winning four times and finishing second and third five and four times respectively. She has a bankroll of $21,330 and a lifetime mark of 2:04 at the Mercer County Fair on August 11. Lucky L will face Spiffy Sam, Friskie’s Angel, Friskie Six, Rosy Fire, R Spunky Girl and Baby Slider.
Freshman Buckeye-bred pacers will take to the stage in race 10 for the $30,000 second division, the final Sires Stakes event of the evening. Friskie Adam (Feelin Friskie-Lottery Fever-Falcon Almahurst) is the 5-2 morning-line favorite. Friskie Adam is owned by Dr, Jerry Maloon Stable of Dublin, Ohio. Chip Noble is the colt’s trainer and driver. Friskie Adam has won two of five races, finishing second twice and third one. His 1:55.1 mark was paced at Scioto Downs on July 13 and he has bankrolled $35,494. Friskie Adam starts from post six in a talented field consisting of Friskie Shadow, UF Fast Feelin, Feel Like Autumn, Player’s King and Rocket Beau.
