Ohoka Nevada - Winning the Barastoc Cup last week

Harness Racing SA was blessed with the presence of Ohoka Nevada in Season 2010/2011 and without a doubt his performance on the track had him the deserved and undisputed winner of the '2010/2011 SA Horse of the Year'.

Ohoka Nevada was crowned SA's Number One Pacer this afternoon at the Horse of the Year Presentation function, held at Mawson Lakes Hotel, at no surprise to anyone in attendance.

Having 17 starts since arriving in South Australia under the care of Jon Kingston-Mayne in early October 2010, his record has been faultless with 15 wins and 2 placings, with driver Mark Billinger at the helm on all 17 occasions. Owned by Sam Treccase, the Sands A Flyin 8 year old gelding won $110,724 in the past season making it his most successful. To further no surprise, connections of Ohoka Nevada left Mawson Lakes Hotel with the 2010/2011 SA 4YO and Older Horse of the Year to celebrate.

The feature race wins that Ohoka Nevada claimed through his inaugural season on the South Australian circuit included the 2010 Italian Cup, 2011 Barastoc Cup, 2011 Port Pirie Cup with his biggest achievement on his highlight real for the crowning season being his performance to claim the 2011 Mildura Cup on April 16 defeating Lets Slash an Burn NZ.

Narrowly defeated in his two other outings which did not see him greet the judge first was a gallant third behind Smoken Up in the 2011 $100,000 Group 1 SA Cup and a 2nd to Our Malabar in the 2011 $25,000 Gawler Gold Cup, two races he will be out the reverse the ledger in the coming season.
