Last year’s 2YO Harness Jewels winner One Over Da Moon can notch up his second Group One victory in Friday’s $80,000 Northern Trotting Derby at Alexandra Park according to his regular driver David Butt.
“He locked on one rein and went bush around the bend last week but if he had have run straight he would have made it very interesting,” said Butt when questioned about One Over Da Moon’s third behind Twentyten and King Denny in last week’s Sires Stakes Championship.
This week Butt is expecting a far more tractable performance from the three-year-old son of Majestic Son and champion trotting mare One Over Kenny.
“Paul (Nairn) is a master trainer so I am sure he will have him ironed out for this week. He has changed his bit and added the boring pole to his gear,” Butt added.
Butt is also confident that the step up in distance to 2700 metres will suit his charge.
“He is a tough wee fella, so the distance should be right up his alley,” he enthused.
One Over Da Moon’s main dangers look to be Majestic Time, Twentyten, King Denny, and Mum’s Pride, who is somewhat of an unknown quantity among the age group trotting ranks and comes into the race off the back of three very impressive wins.
