Just in case you might have missed these facts, as a public service we would like to point out the following: Eight of the twelve divisional harness racing champions announced this week, after a poll of the U.S. Harness Writers Association (full disclosure: the author is USHWA's national secretary) and North American racing secretaries, were Pennsylvania-sired performers.
This includes five of the six trotting categories (and thus obviously three pacers); a sweep of all four 2YO and 3YO trotting categories; and a sweep of all four 2YO categories:
2TC - Possess The Will; 2TF - Check Me Out; 3TC -; 3TF - Cedar Dove; OTM - Action-Broadway; 2PC - Sweet Lou; 2PF- Economy Terror; OPH - Foiled Again.
In addition: Possess The Will was PA-bred (Hanover); three of the champions were PA-trained (Ron Burke's Sweet Lou and Foiled Again, and Chris Oakes' Economy Terror); and four had PA owner connections - two fully-owned (Possess The Will and Economy Terror), and two at least ½-owned in the Keystone State (Sweet Lou and Foiled Again).
Oh - and the eight Pennsylvania-sired divisional champions earned a combined $6.9 million racing in 2011.
We end this public service message with best wishes for great racing luck in 2012!
