DOVER, Del. — Marcus Miller and PL Hoofhearted opened up in the stretch to score a 1:53 victory at Dover Downs on Thursday, Dec. 3. Corey Callahan and Ross Wolfenden had three wins each.
PL Hoofhearted had been plagued with outside posts recently, and a change to post 5 was a plus, as the four-year-old Mach Three-Finally Focused gelding who picked up his seventh victory of the year winning the $20,000 3,4&5-Year-Old Claiming pace feature. Too Darn Hot (Jason Lynch) nipped Spartacus PV (Ross Wolfenden) for place money. Curran Racing LLC owns the Nick Surick-conditioned winner of $52,170 in 2015.
Bret Brittingham, back after shoulder surgery and recovery, made it two in-a-row driving As Bad As Thunder to victory in 1:53.2 in the sub-feature $15,000 Male Claiming Allowance. The family owned-and-raced mainstay is owned by his mother, Elizabeth, and trained by his dad, Don Brittingham. The nine-year-old altered son of Badlands Hanover-Power Of Thunder won for the seventh time this year and 44th in his career. His lifetime earnings are $388,318. Csardas (Pat Berry) was next with Major Tipper (Callahan) a close third.
Callahan and Wolfenden, numbers 1 and 3 in the driver win standings, had three wins apiece. Allan Davis, Jonathan Roberts and trainer Josh Green had a double.
