It came down to the last race on the Meadowlands' final harness racing card for 2012. More specifically, it came down to a head.
When Mega Lightning (Ron Pierce) defeated Handicapper Mark McKelvie’s selection Blue Claw (Brian Sears) in the twelfth race by a head last night, it gave Chip Handicapper Pandy (Robert Pandalfo) the title of King of the Meadowlands in HANA Harness’ The Pen vs. The Chip Handicapping Challenge sponsored by the Hambletonian Society, Meadowlands, Tioga Downs and Vernon Downs by having the highest Win ROI of all the handicappers for the legs of the challenge contested at the Meadowlands.
Pandy ( Meadowlands Win ROI 1.148) defeated Pen Handicapper Mark McKelvie by 0.006, a difference of $1.00. For his victory, the Meadowlands will be making a $100 donation to The Starfish Group (this in addition to the sponsorship fee which will be donated to the overall contest winner’s standardbred rescue of choice).
While Pandy took the overall Meadowlands handicapping crown, Scott Alberg came out on top last night with a Win ROI of 1.117, while place and show honors went to Ray’s Robot and Bobby Z, respectively. In the Exacta key side competition, Bobby Z was the victor with a ROI of 1.522 with Scott Alberg (1.300) coming in second and Trackmaster’s Chatsworth Consortium (1.213) coming in third.
With twenty-nine legs completed, Mark McKelvie remains the leader with a ROI of 1.03 ($823.70) overall in the contest, a 0.134 lead of the Chatsworth Consortium with Pandy 0.008 further back in third.
