Orjan Kihlstrom used a patient pylon trip plus a bit of luck to escape heavy stretch traffic and win the hotly contested Sundsvall Open (2140 meters autostart, 199,500 euro purse, Gr. I International UET Master Series) today (Saturday) at Bergsker Racecourse in Sweden with Panne de Moteur (5m Credit Winner-Jalopy-Donerail) in 1.10.9kr.
The son of a Hambletonian Oaks winner is trained by Stefan Hultman for owner Travkompaniets Stall AB (a public company) and the winner scored at 6/1 odds over the game pacesetter Sebastian K (7m Korean-Gabriella K-Probe) handled by trainer Ake Svanstedt.
Save The Quick (7f Jasmin de Flore-Heureuse Duchesse) hung on for third driven by Bjorn Goop after the she brushed three wide from last to get into contention. Formula One was fourth for Jorma Kontio ahead of Monster Drive, Raja Mirchi, Nahar, Shaq Is Back, Sanity and Friction in a top flight field.
The Open was fiercely contested from the start as Sebastian K took a quick early lead from post five and was immediately confronted by Raja Mirchi. The pair raced as a team and about halfway through the race Robert Bergh made a bold three wide move with Nahar. He was unable to clear the two leaders and faded late allowing Panne de Moteur to escape the pylons, move to the far outside and zoom past for the win over Sebastian K and Save The Quick.
