Last seasons 3yo Harness Jewels winner Pat's Delight looks the horse to beat in todays Tuapeka Cup run at Forbury Park Raceway.
Fresh up from winning the Harness Jewels at Cambridge in June, Pat's Delight looks thrown in against some much lower rated rivals on a course where he has never been beaten at.
Trainer Cran Dalgety agreed when commenting on his website,
“He’s probably the one to beat on reputation, but you can never take it for granted.
"We’ve done as much as we can going in with two trials and two workouts.
"He went nice in his last run at the Rangiora workouts on Wednesday and went to the line strong without coming off the trail in the run home. Its not too far for Pat (Kubala) to come up and watch him, so that was our reasoning for going there, instead of Ashburton,” he said.
Pat's Delight's main danger in the race is the Nathan Williamson trained Franco Santino who is also coming in freshened after a last start win at Gore on the 11th August this year.
Williamson was quoted in Southland media earlier in the week saying,
"We're under no illusion that Pat's Delight is the one to beat and will be very difficult to beat.
"He won the Jewels and got beaten a lip in the Derby.
"Whatever my horse does he should keep improving for the coming weeks.
The New Zealand TAB has made Pat's Delight a $1.35 favourite on the Fixed Odds win market with Franco Santino the second favourite at $4.50
Watch the race on Trackside One at 3:58pm today.
