The trials have been run and the results are impressive - the TAB's new Place6 harness racing, greyhounds and galloping bet is a winner.
Punters were given the chance to take Place6 bets on five domestic race meetings as an early “taster” of the new tote bet type, which goes national on December 8.
Payouts to Place6 winners were excellent.
A Place6 punter at yesterday’s Manawatu harness meeting took away more than $2500 from a $10 Place6 bet. A Wanganui greyhounds fan collected $971 from a $9 investment when the Place6 bet struck multiple winning combinations, collecting the $107.90 dividend eight times on a single ticket.
TAB Head of Race Betting Michael Dore said Place6 had hit the ground running.
“All the good stuff that could happen with Place6 did happen. As well as the big winners at Manawatu and Wanganui, we had a customer who took a $1 Place6 Easybet on the Timaru gallops and collected $240 when all the runners came in.
“So we’re very pleased with the way it’s gone, and I’m sure the punters are too.”
Place6 requires the successful selection of six placegetters in six races. That means there’s more ways to win, with hundreds of possible winning combinations in every Place6 bet.
To celebrate the official nationwide launch of Place6 on December 8, when the new bet type will be available on all domestic race meetings, the TAB will pony up bonuses to get the Place6 pools going at the six meetings on launch weekend.
“With six New Zealand meetings involved that weekend (three on Saturday, December 8, and three on Sunday, December 9) we’ll be putting a bonus of $10,000 into each of those Place6 pools.
“That means the dividends on offer should be beauties.”
Punters can take a Place6 bet from as little as $1. Percentage betting will be available. Place6 will be available through at all TAB outlets and via all sales channels.
