With the Australian Pacing Gold Sales over for another year, attention now turns to other harness racing Yearling Sales still to be run and the Bathurst Gold Crown Yearling Sale is the next cab off the rank.
When looking at the catalogue for the Bathurst Gold Crown Yearling sale this year one is immediately struck by the number of lots that wouldn't be out of place in any yearling sale in Australasia.
Pride of place amongst those blue blood lots in our opinion goes to Lot 98 which is offered on behalf of well known New South Wales breeder and yearling sales vendor Scott Robertson.
A filly by Cam's Card Shark son Roll With Joe 1:48.4 ($1,805,102), Lot 98 is the first live foal from the very smart Rocknroll Hanover raceamare in Our Santa Catalina 1:55.6 ($78,160).
Our Santa Catalina is a daughter of the imported North American mare San Sophia 1:52.6 ($86,164) who has left seven winners from eight foals including such standouts as:
* Private Joke 1:52.2 ($153,265)
* Raging Bull 1:56.6 ($115,581)
* San Rafaella 1:52.3 ($76,605)
Leading West Australian trainer Greg Bond paid $62,500 for a Somebeachsomewhere colt from San Sophia at the Sydney leg of this years Australian Pacing Gold series
Raging Bull, a son of Christian Cullen made $85,000 at the New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale at Christchurch and looked a star in the making with five wins and five seconds from just ten starts before injury halted his career and he is now being given his chance at stud by New Zealand breeders while a Christian Cullen colt from the half sister San Rafaella made $55,000 at the same sale this year.
San Sophia is a full sister to the world champion racemare Galleria 1:49.2 ($1,814,453) who was undefeated at two and three and retired to stud the richest and fastest mare of all time.
Galleria has since produced the brilliant Gallie Bythe Beach 1:49 ($581,978) while another full sister to San Sophia and Galleria in National Gallery has produced Traceur Hanover 2, 1:50.6 ($425,333) who won the 2014 Breeders Crown in North America.
This has been a great colt and fillies family over a long period of time in North America and is also now firmly established as a highly commercial family in New Zealand.
To have a colt by one of the big up and comers on the North American siring scene in Roll With Joe from a very smart daughter of San Sophia is a real coup for the Bathurst Gold Crown sale and barring accidents, Lot 98 should top the sale.
