CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With the conclusion of another successful Governor's Plate Week at Red Shores Summerside, the harness racing action returns to the capital oval with 11-dashes on tap Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The first race of the evening is scheduled for a 6:30 P.M. start time and the top pace of the mid-week program lines up in the finale.
Prettyndangerous is selected for the top spot in the morning line odds with post 3 in race 11 and David Dowling back above the wheels for trainer and co-owner Bo Ford and co-owner Arnold Myers of Charlottetown. The nine-year-old daughter of Armbro Deuce was impressive her last start in Charlottetown with a 1:57.2 victory but made a break in stride last week in Summerside to finish fourth. Miss Sangria leaves from post 2 fresh off a trio of second place finishes. With regular driver Adam Merner absent, owner Alex MacPhee of Clyde River will have his granddaughter Ambyr Campbell drive Miss Sangria for trainer Melissa Rennie.
One Hot Camshaft drops out of the open mares ranks to land in Thursday's $2,000 finale for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Frank Hansen. Race analyst Les MacIsaac admits Prettyndangerous may be the class of the field but with her recent breaks he will side with One Hot Camshaft for the win position.
"One Hot Camshaft went up against the open mares a couple of times at Summerside and while she didn't get much, she didn't look totally out of place," MacIsaac said. "The bit of class relief she gets tonight makes her a potential sleeper."
Also in the field is Dreas Good Powow (Driven by Corey MacPherson) from post 1, Charlottes Western (Marc Campbell), Paythelinebluechip (Gordie Hennessey) and Julep Hanover (Kenny Arsenault).
Freddie and Star Photo will again lock bridles in the race 9 Open trot with a $2,250 pot at play. Star Photo rides a two-race win streak into the event fresh off a 1:58.2 aged gelding track record at Red Shores Summerside in the Andrew Perry Memorial Trot. Jason Hughes will again handle the post 5 starter for trainer Kevin Gillis and owners Robi Hughes, James Perrot and Eric MacLauchlan of Stratford and Blair MacLauchlan of Charlottetown. Freddie has post 4 for trainer-driver Campbell while Hop Up (MacPherson) will look to replicate her eight-length romp on July 4 from post position 2.
Race 5 is the Stars For Life Foundation pace as Girl With Attitude (Murphy) leads the field from post 4 for trainer Fred Paynter of Kensington.
Red Shores, Standardbred Canada, and Prince Edward Island Horse Owners Association is proud to support National Caretakers Day on the program with special videos, prize giveaways and presentations.
Standardbred groom Abby Clow will be special guest on the Inside Track with host Kurt Hughes Thursday at 6:15pm. The interview segment will be broadcast on the Red Shores TV network.
