The prestigious amateur event on Prix d'Amerique weekend went to reinsman Alf-Torfina Skele and his Italian charge Lord Dany in the Prix Coupe d'Europe des Amateurs on Saturday, carrying a purse of 16,000 euro over the 2100 meter autostart course.
This years' race, which was open to International equine starters, was limited to European drivers. Lord Dany (9g-Athena Egral- ) was off at 3.8/1 odds and is trained by Italy's Marco Smorgon. The winner scored, timed in 1.14.7kr, by a dwindling margin over fast closing Middle East (9g -East Is East- ) and teamster Joey Vignoni for Swedish trainer Jarma Niskanen. This one was a 44/1 outsider.
