Texas Charm and driver Julien Dubois may take the family heritage to the world's truly classic trotting event. Jean-Pierre Dubois and sons Jean-Etienne and Jean-Philippe combined have four Prix d'Amerique victories. Texas Charm has two wins in 2013 timed at 1.10kr or better. Based on yesterday's win and special strong finish after a three-wide move against then leading pacesetter Timoko, one can believe that the six year-old son of Cygnus d'Odyssee can extend to the 2700 meter distance.

Some observers believe 2014 will reveal a changing of the guard of the world's best trotters with Ready Cash, Royal Dream, Timoko, Roxane Griff and The Best Madrik having perhaps lost a step. But don't count out Ready Cash quite yet. Franck Nivard usually finds a strategically advantageous spot for his veteran, now with earnings of 4,282,300 euro and 40 victories, and he raced well yesterday despite being close to the exceptionally fast early fractions.

It was also reported today that Italian sprinter Mack Grace SM will not contest the Prix d'Amerique. He's won 12 straight and may wait to meet the challenge of the Gran Criterium du Vitesse at Cagnes-sur-mer in early March, at the mile distance autostart, and after the European top Echelon have battled in the Prix d'Amerique, Prix de France and Prix de Paris, each two weeks apart starting with January 26.
