As an avid harness racing fan first and administrator second, Bathurst Harness Racing Club chief executive officer Danny Dwyer looks forward to a number of nights on the pacing calendar.
Wednesday Memorial night is one of those occasions.
The club will remember a host of influential figures, who made their mark both on and off the track, throughout the eight race program, kicking off with the Keith Colley Memorial from 6.03pm.
Dwyer says naming races in honour of the likes of Colley, John and Margaret Donnelly, Don and Freda Callan, Norm and Gath Harkham, Harold Lonard, Kevin Doherty and John Clayton was a great way to bring the community together – in their droves, too.
“The harness racing community is pretty solid as a family,” Dwyer said.
“You run a night like this and you get immediate family members and all of the grandchildren come along as well.
“It makes for a really great night.”
