Talented harness racing driver Michael Grantham holds a commanding lead heading into the third heat of the Garrards Concession Drivers’ Series at Bunbury on Sunday.
Grantham won the opening qualifier at Pinjarra last Monday with the Kevin Keys-trained Blacknsweet Adda, beating Itz Darknstormy, driven by Maddison Brown, and Crusader Banner, with Harley Matthew in the cart.
He then repeated the dose at Gloucester Park the following night when he drove Im Themightyquinn's brother, Themightynadal, to victory for trainer Gary Hall, accounting for Stuart McDonald partnering Sharky and Lauren Jones behind Alta Onassis.
Chasing a clean sweep of the heats this weekend, Grantham is sitting on 20 ponts to be well-clear of Brown and Jones on 13, with McDonald on 11.
Grantham’s prospects were bolstered when his charge - Gotta Go Cullect for trainer Ray Jones – drew to settle close to the lead from barrier four.
Defending champion Kristy Sheehy should prove hardest to beat after drawing the pole with handy performer Addfueltofire, a member of the Ross Olivieri stable.
The final heat of the Challenge is scheduled to be at Gloucester Park on Tuesday, September 9.
