Regil Elektra and harness racing driver Jason Bartlett was able to get to Sell a Bit N (Jordan Stratton) in a battle of two "figure" horses Friday night, winning Yonkers Raceway's $32,000 Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace.
In play early from penultimate post position No. 5, second choice Regil Elektra made the first lead. She then saw 3-5 fave Sell a Bit N, from her ordered outside venue, move past.
Sell a Bit N led the way through a :27.1 opening quarter-mile and :56.3 half, seeing no pressure until Jungle Genie N (Brian Sears) came out from fourth down the backside. That one never reached the leading lass in and out a 1:26 three-quarters.
Sell a Bit N owned a length-and-a-half lead into the lane before Regil Elektra ducked inside. The latter won an elongated battle by a nose in 1:54. Pole-assigned Daut Full (Tyler Buter) was a best-of-the-rest third as the 57-1 rank outsider, with Request for Parole (George Brennan) and Rockn Ruby N (Dan Dube) settling for the remainder.
Jungle Genie N wound up last among the half-dozen.
For Regil Elektra, a 6-year-old daughter of Mach Three owned by Fred Monteleone and trained by Keith Armer, it was her fourth win in eight seasonal starts. The exacta paid $9.10, with the triple returning $99.
The Raceway's live season continues Saturday night (first post 7:10 PM).
