Illinois bred trotting fillies took center stage on Tuesday night (November 8) at Balmoral Park as a field of six 2-Year-Olds battled in a $12,500 ISOBA Super Sale Stake.
In what amounted to nothing more than a stroll in the park, Lloyd & Jean Daulton’s Rockome Vicky continued a nice late season march with a 13 ¼ length victory in a career best of 1:58.4.
Bet to the exclusion of her five rivals this daughter ofwas content to bide her time in third as Fox Valley Shimmy (Pat Berry) sprinted away to a big lead. That filly enjoyed a two length cushion as she moved by the quarter in 29.2 seconds, a 3 ¼ length advantage as she passed the half in 58.0 and a seven length lead as she trotted by the three-quarter-mile station in 1:28.1.
Despite facing that big deficit as the field turned for home, the hot Mike Oosting never panicked quickly shifting Rockome Vicky to the outside where she kicked it into high gear.
Effortlessly gobbling up ground as the leaders became leg weary the Lloyd Daulton trainee flew right by her foes with a 29.1 final quarter. The pace-setting Fox Valley Shimmy held to finish second while Kendal Has Panache (Dale Hiteman) was 17-lengths back in third.
Fresh off a victory here at Balmoral Park in the Sarah Myers Stake last week, Rockome Vicky now sports a record of three wins, three seconds and two thirds in 14 starts.
The winner’s share of $6,250 helped push this fillies bankroll up to $37,100 in her first season of racing.
