He was only 0.1 of a second off the winning time but that was still good enough for North Canterbury harness racing enthusiast Ray Carlson to win our latest fixed odds betting competition.

Readers were asked to pick the winning time of the $80,000 Group One New Zealand Trotting Championship at Addington Raceway last Saturday (March 30).

The Tim Butt trained and Anthony Butt driven Vulcan won the 2600m mobile in 3:16.8. Carlson's winning time was 3:16.7.

A steward for the Rangiora Harness Racing Club, Carlson also won our competition in December 2011 and collected $225.

Thanks to Steve Richardson of the New Zealand TAB, Carlson this Friday gets to spend $100 each way (or $200 to win) on a fixed odds bet at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting.

Carlson's bet will be revealed here later in the week.
