Red River Hanover, one of the best bred and best performed sons of champion sire Western Hanover, is lining up for his third season at Warwick Stud, Tallygaroopna, near Shepparton, at a reduced harness racing fee of $1,760 including GST.

With just over $1-million in progeny earnings in the closing season and more than $11-million lifetime, Red River Hanover is unquestionably one of the most proved sires standing in the Goulburn Valley.

Red River Hanover, who was first at the stud at the prestige Perretti Farms in New Jersey, left the winners of $5.58-million from his initial two USA crops – 131 foals – a staggering average of $42,600 per foal.

While his first four American crops have to date amassed in excess of $8-million at an average of $27,000 per foal. They include three in the 1:50 list, 57 in 1:55, 140 in 2:00 and 20 $100,000 winners including a top colt in Drop Red 1:49 ($688,000), the winner of the 2009 Oliver Wendell Holmes, and a star filly in Miss Scarlett 1:50 ($518,539).

Red Neck Riviera 1:49.4, Ol’ Man River 1:50.2, Riverwalk 1:50.4 and Shayna Baby 1:50.4 were other smart performers from Red River’s first crops.

Standing as a shuttle sire originally at Nevele R Stud in New Zealand and for the last two years at Warwick Stud in Victoria, Red River Hanover has continued to build on his impressive stud record.

His stock has won at Group level at two, three and four years and in Grand Circuit, cup and Free-for-all company and are renowned for their speed and staying ability.

With his oldest Australian progeny seven-year-olds, Red River Hanover is represented by such good winners as Garnet River 1:52.4 ($381,643), winner of the Tasmanian Derby and Victoria Youthful Stakes, Mister Zion 1:56.8 ($254,610), winner of the South Australian Cup, Runaway Red 1:53.9 ($284,570), Hollywood Bromac 1:54.3, River Field, Takeabow and Firm Believer.

A talented two-year-old filly in Lady White Water 1:56.4, who won four of her six starts last term including the $100,000 Group 1 Kay Seymour Nursery at Albion Park, was also sired by Red River Hanover.

A magnificent pacer and genuine racehorse, Red River Hanover won 15 of his 32 starts at two and three and earned almost $970,000 in stakes.

He took his 1:48.8 lifetime mark winning the $1.5-million North America Cup at Woodbine, beating horses the calibre of Mach Three, McArdle and Royal Mattjesty to become the fastest three-year-old ever sired by Western Hanover.

A $300,000 yearling, Red River Hanover belongs to one of the greatest families of sires in harness racing, being a three-quarter brother to Rocknroll Hanover, currently the No. 1 sire in America, and to the 1:50 sires Rustler Hanover and Richess Hanover.
