CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Boxing Day pace was full of gifts courtesy of Jetta Flys and harness racing driver Corey MacPherson Tuesday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
MacPherson set up shop on the front end in the $1,800 Boxing Day pace with Jetta Flys at 4-1 odds and landed on the line first in 2:00.1 as one of two wins on the day for the teamster. Jetster (Driven by Marc Campbell) finished second with Zingers Laugh (Walter Cheverie) completing the healthy $959.35 triactor ticket. Jetta Flys is co-owned and trained by Stephen Quinn of Stratford with co-owner John Quinn of Charlottetown.
Campbell, Red Shores leading driver, continued his winning ways during the 16-dash card with four visits to the winner's circle. The 'King' of Island racing, Campbell captured the $2,400 preferred pace with Rose Run Quest out of his own stable for owner Blair Hansen of Charlottetown. Time of the mile was 1:57.4 as Rose Run Quest won his third straight preferred pace. Second went to Czar Seelster (Todd Weatherbee) with Woggy Rocks (Gary Chappell) finishing third.
Campbell's other wins came with newcomer Diduseethat in 2:02.2, also from his own barn for the training double, while Painted Pony teamed up with Campbell to win in 2:00.2 for trainer Raymond White of Murray River. Howmacs Dragonator, trained by Earl Watts, recorded the opening score for Campbell in race 2.
Holy Molie Maggie overpowered the top trot of the day with a 2:04.2 victory for driver Walter Cheverie and trainer Jeff Holmes. The $1,600 class saw Hop Up (MacPherson) continue her top-two streak with a second place finish, and Suicide Shift (Patrick Shepherd) finish third.
Jason Hughes also had a driving double on the program.
