CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – She may not have done it in the feature harness racing event but Friday evening cemented Daisy River's status as an Atlantic Canadian great at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
In line to Jason Hughes, the William Lanigan trained and owned Daisy River scored a 1:58.1 victory in her $2,150 trot assignment to make her the fastest Maritime bred ever on the Eastern Seaboard of Canada. The Nikes Image five-year-old took over the title from former Atlantic Record holder Est Non Ila Dulcis, who accomplished her 1:58.2 record feat in 2013. The victory was number 12 of Daisy River's career as she lowered her lifetime best winning performance a full three-seconds from 2:01.1.
Time To Dance remains undefeated on red soil in the featured $2,850 pace after the Marc Campbell trained and driven pacer won in 1:55.4 for owners Brent Campbell of Charlottetown and Matthew McDonald of Edwards, Ont. Second went to Mantario (Driven by Kenny Arsenault) while Winter Blast (Hughes) was third.
Campbell had three wins from his stable with Freddie winning the open trot in 1:58.1 and Fusspot taking a personal best of 1:58.4.
