CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Starcastic captured the Dr. Blair Kelly Memorial Pace Friday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Gilles Barrieau scored the winning drive over the rain soaked capital oval in 1:58.3 in the $2,350 event for trainer Jackie Matheson and owners Bobbi Jo Gaudet of Charlottetown and Billy MacKenzie of Stratford.
Iron Phil (Louis Philippe Roy) laid down the early fractions of 29, 58.1 and 1:29 to end up second with Starcastic using a second over trip to score the one length victory with with Waterside Light (Marc Campbell) finishing third.
Barrieau and Matheson also teamed up for the win with Mozartsplace in 1:59 for owners Brad Duplisea and Shawn McAdam, both of Charlottetown.
Jason Hughes had a driving double on the program, visiting the winner's circle with Fleurje after a 2:00.2 victory and Beckenbauer with a 2:01.2 win.
The total wager was $47,242 on the 10-dash program.
Old Home Week racing continues Saturday in Charlottetown with a doubleheader on tap with a 1 p.m.post time for the afternoon card and a 7 p.m. post time for the evening program featuring Sobey's Gold Cup and Saucer trial 1.
