Summerside, PE – The annual Canada Day card at Red Shores Summerside will kick off an action packed weekend at both Red Shores locations this week.
The 14-dash card will get underway Friday at 1 p.m. and will feature the always-entertaining Canada Day Pace.
The afternoon top class will line up in Race 13, as outside Post 6 starter Machinthesand will look to make it back-to-back victories in the Red Shores Summerside feature.
With rail control last time out the seven-year-old Mach Three gelding used a perfect pocket ride to deliver in deep stretch for owners Noonan Holdings LTD., Russell and Karen Noonan. The 1:57.2 score completed with a :28.4 closing quarter is the best win time to date for the Hughie Murphy trainee. Ken Murphy will handle the driving duties.
Last week's runner-up finisher Motorino carries a 6 for 8 top three-finish record into the race from Post 4, Terry Gallant trains, drives and co-owns with Eric Johnston. The field is rounded out by Rash B Havior, Spirit of America, Casimir Luciano and Dbs Rosco.
The back-up Non-winners of $1,251 will close out the afternoon card in Race 14, Athletic Putnam has been installed as the morning line favorite for owners Paul Biggar and Donald Callbeck, Dale Spence will pick up the driving assignment.
The ever-popular Backstretch Beat is not going with morning odds favorite in this class. The "Beat" has listed position 2 starter Bowyer Hanover as the top selection.

Forever Paradise gets top call in Red Shores Feature
Charlottetown, PE – A pair of Cecil Ladner Memorial starters will square off in the Race 7 Preferred 1 Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Post time is 6pm.
Forever Paradise will pick up the catch driving services of Gilles Barrieau this week from post 5 and has been listed as the morning line favorite.
The ownership group of Reg MacPherson, David and Aaron MacKenzie, have enjoyed a seven for eight top three finish this season which includes four victories for the Kevin MacLean trainee.
The newcomer to the Island racing scene, Doing Some Damage, has drawn into post 4 in the compact field of 5 for owner Kent Livingston. Coming in off of a fifth place finish in the Ladner, the winner of 38 races lifetime will team up with driver Corey MacPherson for trainer Trevor Hicken.
The field is rounded out by My Lucky Killean (Ken Murphy), Jeb (Jason Hughes) and Fightmaster (Mike McGuigan).
Six of the region's best mares will face-off in Race 9 with Ramblinglily drawing the outside post 6 as the morning line favorite while Best Risque has post 5. Last week's Open Mare winner Shadows Mystery is absent from competition this week.
The 12-dash card gets underway at 6 p.m.
