CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – There was no stopping Casimir Richie P Monday evening as he won Trial 2 of The Guardian Gold Cup and Saucer by open lengths at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as part of Gold Cup and Saucer week racing.
Driver Dale Spence hustled Casimir Richie P to the lead in the $12,500 trial and carved out splits of 27.4, 56.1 and 1:24.1 before unleashing a 27.1 closing quarter to open up by over two lengths in 1:51.2. Rose Run Quest (Driven by Marc Campbell) was second, while longshot Woodmere Ideal Art (David Dowling) earned a place in the $60,000 final along with fourth place finisher Lisburn (Kenny Arsenault). Trainer Dr. Ian Moore along with Michael Goldberg of Toronto, Ontario, owns Casimir Richie P.
It was one of four wins on the program for Spence who also claimed the $3,000 Birthplace Of Confederation series elimination for pacing mares with Woodmere Chella in 1:54.2 for trainer Marvyn Webster of Kensington.
The card featured the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing colts. Tobins Rebel (Gilles Barrieau) was on top in his $13,360 A-division winning in 1:55.2 while Woodmere Rollnpop (Clare MacDonald) got up in the final strides to win the other split in 1:55.4.
