CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With a perfect two-hole trip from 'The Maritime Magic Man' Avatar J got up in deep stretch to win the featured harness racing pace Saturday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Gilles Barrieau left smartly with the Danny MacDonald trained pacer and sat second as Simple Kinda Man (Driven by Jason Hughes) supplied the speed on the front end. Simple Kinda Man rolled through splits of 28, 55.2 and 1:24 before Avatar J tipped into the passing lane to power by in 1:52.4 for owners Dean Larkin of Edwards, Ont., and Jody Sanderson of Cornwall. Simple Kinda Man had to settle for second while Screen Test (Corey MacPherson) was third.
Barrieau had three winners on the program, both from the Ron Matheson stable of Charlottetown, as Outrageous Story won in 1:56.3 and Ashes To Ashes was a 1:56.2 victor.
The biggest upset of the evening came in the race 11 finale as Legendary Ron and driver Dale Spence rolled off the front from post 1 to win in 1:55.4 paying $56.20 to win.
Owned by Doug Matheson of Cornwall, Legendary Ron was on top of a $1,003.30 triactor ticket.
Total wager was $44,884.
