CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Capitalizing on an early break in stride by the heavy favourite, Dustlanemissmolly used the rail to her advantage and was on top at every call by an open length score in the Saturday afternoon feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Dustlanemissmolly was sent to the lead in the $2,350 Fillies and Mares Open pace by trainer-driver Myles Heffernan and was unchallenged off the front to the first quarter in 30.1, due partly to the 2-5 favoured Prettyndangerous (Driven by David Dowling) making a break in the first turn and never coming back into contention.
Julep Hanover (Wade Myers) launched a first-over assault on Dustlanemissmolly headed to the half in 1:00.4 through wet and windy conditions with a two-second track variant, then the duo tripped the three-quarters in 1:31.2. Dustlanmissmolly then opened up on her foes to prevail by two-and-a-half lengths in 2:00.2.
Collective Wisdom (Drew Neill) came up the inside to finish second while Julep Hanover held on for third. Dustlanemissmolly's visit to the winner's circle was number 21 of her career and number four since coming into the ownership of Jackie Heffernan of Summerville, P.E.I.
Mach Of Ballykeel scored an upset in the $1,500 Cabo Pan Lucas Retirement pace as part of a driving triple by Corey MacPherson. The Kyle Wilkie co-owned and trained pacer stopped the timer in 2:00.3 for co-owner Mallory Lewis of Sherwood, P.E.I.
MacPherson's other wins came with Southfield Sassy in 2:03.1 for Southfield Farms of Summerside and in a maiden breaking score of 2:05.4 with Lilbootsinparadise for Glenn Claybourne of Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Suicide Shift ,won the $1,950 Open trot as the longest shot on the board in a field scratched down to four entries. Steven Shepherd was in the driver's seat in the 2:04.2 victory for owners Margo Fisher of Fredericton, N.B., and Harold Shepherd of Stratford, P.E.I.
