SUMMERSIDE, PE – After a narrow miss in his latest outing Machinthesand reignited his winning ways in the Wednesday evening feature at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Ken Murphy was in the bike for the victory as the nine-year-old son of Mach Three left from post 1 and retained his position for the duration of the race. Machinthesand set up fractions of 28, 57.3 and 1:26.2 before closing out the mile in 1:55.1 by over three-lengths. Second went to Red Magician (Driven by Adam Merner) while the $252.05 triactor was completed by race favourite Keep Coming (Marc Campbell).
Machinthesand is owned by Noonan Holdings Ltd., of Summerside and trained by Barry Folland.
Trainer-driver Walter Cheverie scored a double on the program from his Nine Mile Creek stable as Way Over made a maiden breaking score of 2:01.1 by five-lengths. The three-year-old daughter of Pang Shui is co-owned by Cheverie along with David MacLeod of Winsloe and Douglas Oulton of Sackville, N.B.
Cheverie's other visit to the winner's circle came with Heart And Soul for owner Riley Farms Ltd., of Summerside. The former Maritime Champion son of Western Paradise circled the field from seventh at the quarter to nail pacesetter Jeb (Jason Hughes) in a mile time of 1:58.1.
