CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – KD Overdrive continues his cross-border journey as he returns to Canada for the Thursday evening feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 11-dash card gets underway at 6:30 P.M. at the capital oval with KD Overdrive drawing post 1 in the race 10 featured event. The $2,200 class has Barrieau in the bike behind KD Overdrive for trainer Stephen Mason and owner Stephen Downey of Quispamsis, N.B.
The five-year-old son of Camystic last raced in the United States at Bangor Raceway in Maine, where he has frequented for much of the season between racing in Atlantic Canada. Rockin Indy leaves from post 3 in the class with Corey MacPherson at the lines for Troy Murray of Clyde River, P.E.I., as the morning line favourite while Weekend Atnannies drops out of stakes competition to compete from post 4 this week for driver Mike McGuigan.
Race analyst Les MacIsaac puts his faith in post 1 starter KD Overdrive to hit the wire first in his Canadian return.
"KD Overdrive gets slightly easier opposition than he had in his last start here, rail control and is reunited with Gilles," MacIsaac said. "That combination makes him a potential sleeper."
Also in the full field of eight is Harbourlite Jerry (Driven by Steven Shepherd), Perfect Escape (Ron Matheson), Jeb (Jason Hughes), Likely To Win (Adam Merner) and Cartoon Daddy (David Dowling).
The $1,950 Open trot lines up in race 6 of the evening with Majian Tango favoured from the outside in the compact field of five. Jim Ripley trains and drives the son of Tad The Stud for owner Marylea Ripley of Amherst, N.S. The trotter is fresh off a win in 2:02.1 over a sloppy rain soaked track at Red Shores in his latest outing and was second to Freddie in the open class the start before. Other top entries include Dusty Lane Jacob (MacPherson) and Frill Seeker (Kenny Arsenault).
