SUMMERSIDE, PE – Soccer Hanover put the finishing touches on a Corey MacPherson driving harness racing hat-trick in the featured event on a special Wednesday evening harness racing program at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Soccer Hanover and his Cornwall driver settled away last of five in the $2,450 featured pace at the Prince County oval while Heart And Soul (Driven by Jason Hughes) was first to the lead with a 27 second opening quarter. Soccer Hanover then made a rush on the outside and was released to the lead by Heart And Soul at the 57.1 halfway point. Three-quarters were triggered in 1:26 before Soccer Hanover closed the mile out in 1:55.4 by over two-lengths with Heart And Soul second and Brandons Glory (Dale Spence) prevailing in the show photo. Leith Waite trains and co-owns the winning Dragon Again six-year-old for co-owners Les and Spencer Waite of Charlottetown.
MacPherson's other wins were with Adventure Luck in 1:59.2 for Robert Williams of Ellerslie and with Avenue Road Katie in 1:59 from the Phil Sizer barn of Kensington.
Trainer Sifroi Melanson of Greater Lakeburn, N.B., made a pair of trips to the winner's circle on the program as Love In Paradise (David Dowling) was a front end winner in 2:00.3 and Bouttagetlucky (Jason Hughes) had a maiden breaking victory of 2:02.4.
Race 10 of the card was won by Howmac Magic (Gilles Barrieau) in 1:58.3 but the oddity of the dash saw Varadero Hanover (Dowling) finish fifth while Flowersonthebeach (Sired by Varadero Hanover) was fourth for driver Ken Murphy.
