CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – A late rally turned into a huge harness racing upset in the Saturday night feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Narragansett was the longest shot on the board but delivered late in the mile to win in 1:56.2 for trainer-driver Jason Hughes and owner Foxyhall Racing of Summerside, PE. The eight-year-old son of Rocknroll Hanover sat the pylons as Elm Grove Kaboom (Earl Smith) laid down front end fractions of 28.3, 58.3 and 1:27.1, while fighting off the first over advance of heavy post time favorite Eagle Jolt (Marc Campbell). Hughes got up in the final strides with the 22-1 Narragansett while Elm Grove Kaboom was second and Likely To Win (Adam Merner) was third. Ashes To Ashes scored the fastest mile of the night as the three-year-old son of Driven To Win won in a blistering 1:55.2 with Gilles Barrieau in the bike for trainer Jackie Matheson and owners Linda Somers of Cornwall, Alan Conway of Summerside and Lynn Livingstone of Kensington.
Campbell had another large night in the race bike winning three races on the program including visit's to the winner's circle with Zero Rate in 1:59.3 for Michael Gallant of Charlottetown, Sandinista in 1:59.1 for Clair Sweet of O'Leary and Howmacs Dragonator in 1:59.1 for trainer Earl Watts of Hampshire.
Hughes had a training and driving double on the program while Matheson also had two wins as a trainer.
Live racing continues at Red Shores Charlottetown Thursday night at 6:30 P.M. and Saturday evening at 6 P.M. with the eliminations of the Maritime Breeder's Stakes for three-year-old pacers.
Spence Steals The Show Sunday In Summerside
SUMMERSIDE, PE – It was a good day to be from Tyne Valley and have Dale Spence in the bike Sunday afternoon at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Spence, who is also a resident of Tyne Valley, had three winners on the program including capturing the featured pace with Mando Fun in 1:59 for Tyne Valley horseman Paul Biggar. The four-year-old son of Badlands Hanover laid down all the fractions of 29.3, 59.1 and 1:29.2 while fending the challenge from favoured Instant Shadow (Gary Chappell). Mando Fun was a three-length winner over D Bs Rosco (Kenny Arsenault) and Machinthesand (Ken Murphy). Biggar co-owns the pacer with Donald Callbeck of Kensington.
Mando Fun paid $6.80 to win with the 2-3-6 triactor paying $220.80.
Spence had two winners earlier on the card with Kiss My Sass winning in 2:02.3 for owner-trainer Mackenzie MacInnis of Tyne Valley and a 1:59.4 score aboard Bold Arrow for owner-trainer Greg MacInnis of Tyne Valley.
Gary Chappell also had a driving triple winning with Howmac Missy in 2:00.3 and Windemeredancenart in 2:03, both for trainer Earl Watts of Hampshire, and a 2:01.1 score with Formidable for owner-trainer Chris MacKay of French River.
Driver Corey MacPherson had two trips to the winner's circle including a 2:02.2 maiden breaking trip with Brief Interlude for owner-trainer Paul Conway of Bonshaw and a 2:01.4 victory with Western Sexy for trainer Phil Sizer and owner Jason Sherry of Kensington.
