CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – It was just another night at the office for the "King" of Island racing as harness racing driver Marc Campbell captured both top events Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Campbell trained and driven Freddie found the wire first in the $2,350 Open Trot as he benefited from some brisk early fractions supplied by Hop Up (Driven by Corey MacPherson). Hop Up struck the front and laid down splits of 28.4 and 58.2 before relinquishing the front to Star Photo (Jason Hughes) at the half-mile marker.
Freddie then took a first-over assault from fourth on that leader and powered by in the stretch to win by two-and-a-half lengths in 1:58.3 with Star Photo second and Hop Up third. Freddie is owned by Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston.
The top pace of the evening was more of the same for the Winsloe driver as he teamed up with Bettim Vicky to win the $2,300 class in 1:57.4. Jeff Lilley of Milton Station co-owns and trains the daughter of Aahm Canadian Now for co-owners Blair MacLauchlan of Charlottetown, Danny Purcell of Newport, N.S., and Greg Goldberg of Victoria, B.C.
Innocent Kiss (Adam Merner) got the deuce with Collective Wisdom (Gilles Barrieau) completing the $459.00 triactor. Campbell's other win came with Paythelinebluechip in 1:59.1 for trainer Jay Noye.
