CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Freddie went to front and never looked back on his way to the winner’s circle in the Open Trot Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The track record holder was sent to the lead in the $2,250 Open Trot by trainer-driver Marc Campbell and carved out fractions of 30.1, 1:01.3 and 1:31.4 before fighting off post time favourite Majian Tango in 2:00.4. The Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston holds the ownership papers of Freddie as he hit the wire first for the 52nd time in his career to push his lifetime earnings over $142,000. Majian Tango (Driven by Jim Ripley) was second with Suicide Shift (Steven Shepherd) rounding out the triactor.
Newcomer Eataamup Cassandra showed her love of red soil as she won her Island debut in 1:58.2 for driver Campbell and new owner-trainer Ralph Sweet of O’Leary. The five-year-old pacer scored a mild upset while winning the Thursday finale at 5-1 odds in the $1,900 class.
Trainer Earl Watts scored a pair of wins from his Hampshire stable as Josten Hanover had a maiden breaking score in 2:02.4 in line to Jason Hughes and Woodmere Oleksiak teamed up with David Dowling to win in 1:58.4.
