Smart youngster Regulus, who already had two Sires Stakes heat placings to his name before yesterday, confirmed he is very worthy of his spot in the $180,000 Final with a dominant victory in the sixth heat of the series at Addington last night.
Sent straight to the front by Dexter Dunn, the imposing son of Mach Three was able to dictate terms in front, before kicking too strongly for Return To Sender, who also qualified for the final, finishing second, after receiving the gun run in the trail.
Meanwhile, the David Kaa trained Dean Martin is now likely to come down for the Sires’ Stakes Final after winning the first race at Alexandra Park last night. The son of Elsu qualified when finishing second to Cyclone Prince in the first heat. He is likely to be accompanied by Mista Mara, who was also a winner last night, during his Southern assault.
In other news from Addington, Charlotte Hunter enjoyed some Birthday success when reining Ireby Betty to an all of the way win at odds of $57.20.
However, the win did win did not surprise the connections of the roan coloured mare, who had from all reports ‘been working the house down.’
Hunter, who works in the foal registration department of Harness Racing New Zealand, also finished third on her own horse Private Jones earlier in the night.
